Hi,

Does anyone know that how to configure dual head display on Northville
platform(LVDS display + Xenarc 1040TS
(http://www.cartft.com/catalog/il/411))?

I tried to configure in MeeGo 1.2 and MeeGo 1.0.1, but I have some
difficulty to succeed configuring.

The attached file is Xorg log file in case of emgd build 1742 + kernel
2.6.33.5-23.1022-ivi

Does anyone can show me actual working dual head display configuration
example?

Thanks in advance,

Can you post your xorg.conf file?

When working ConneXt it is sometimes difficult to get the timings working with their specifications. Their PLLs lock between a SDVO clock of 115MHz-150MHz. Per the SDVO specification, the multiplier is multiplied to the pixel clock using this formula:

If pixel clock is greater than 100kHz, multiplier is 1.
If pixel clock is greater than 50kHz, multiplier is 2.
Else, the multiplier is 4.

So the monitor pixel clock in the xorg.conf must fall within this range while taking in consideration of the SDVO multiplier. For example, a standard 800x600 monitor with a 35500 pixel clock would be a 142MHz SDVO clock. This would be within the range of acceptable frequencies to lock the PLLs on ConneXt. The next issue is if this timing will work with the monitor. Typically, monitors will include this sort of information on the datasheet.

Hi All,
I have not MeeGo compatible an automotive head unit.
I plan to by Snowball board for coding for MeeGo.
Now I am looking for touch screen monitor for this purpose.
What monitors MeeGo support: touch screen, multi-touch screen, both?
Does somebody here use Snowball board?
What monitors do you use with it?
Bes regards,
Alex.

There is a known issue with MeeGo 1.0.1 (i.e. EMGD build 1742 + kernel 2.6.33.5-23.1022-ivi) against dual-head display. You will need to upgrade EMGD (and possibly the kernel/X stack) to get this working.
Make sure too that you set the jumpers correctly on the board.

Your Intel rep (FAE) should be able to provide you with more detailed instructions.

Thanks,
Geoffroy

Hi,

I updated emgd-bin to version 2027, and test it again, but it still fails to initialize display.

At this time, I saw following error on my Xorg.0.log file.

Fatal server error:
[ 591.477] AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0

I attached a configuration file I am using, and a log file.

I think my case is not relevant with QT issue, X isn't just initializing properly.

Wonmin

Hey Wonmin,

Make sure you configure the board correctly.

Hardware prep:
1. Need to put 2 jumpers on JP21 in positions 7-8 and 9-10

2. If using VGA
configure the board by plug in J10 VGA cable into J10
Move the default display to digital RGB by removing jumper JP1 into pin position 2-3

Hope this helps,
Dave

Hi Wonmin,

I tested out your xorg.conf and it seems to work fine so that's not the problem. I did upgrade to EMGD 1.8 with kernel version 2.6.37.6-10.1-adaptation-connext. I did see the same thing as you did on the EMGD 2027 version. Try upgrading to EMGD 1.8 via www.intel.com/embedded

Hi all,
I faced a similar issue. It seems that an update of meego-ivi-configs installs a file called screensaver.conf. That file contains a ServerLayout that overwrites yours defined in xorg.conf. As result you see that X fails because it cannot "AddScreen/ScreenInit". Remove/merge the screensaver.conf and your setup likely works. No need to update drivers.

Hi Wonmin,

I have seen such failure too but thought it was somehow linked to me using a version of Qt compiled without xinput2 support. Can you just confirm which Qt version you are using in your image?

Hey Wonmin,
Make sure you configure the board correctly.
1. Need to put 2 jumpers on JP21 in positions 7-8 and 9-10
2. If using VGA
configure the board by plug in J10 VGA cable into J10
Move the default display to digital RGB by removing jumper JP1 into pin position 2-3
Hope this helps,
Dave

Hi,
I updated emgd-bin to version 2027, and test it again, but it still
fails to initialize display.
At this time, I saw following error on my Xorg.0.log file.
[ 591.477] AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0
I attached a configuration file I am using, and a log file.
I think my case is not relevant with QT issue, X isn't just
initializing properly.

Wonmin

The dual-head EMGD fix does not depend on any kernel changes.

Do you know if getting the latest emgd-bin package is sufficient or do
you need to upgrade your kernel too (for connext)?

That newer version of EMGD that fixes this is in the MeeGo IVI 1.2 update repos now.

There is a known issue with MeeGo 1.0.1 (i.e. EMGD build 1742 +
kernel
Post by VanCutsem, Geoffroy
2.6.33.5-23.1022-ivi) against dual-head display. You will need to
upgrade EMGD (and possibly the kernel/X stack) to get this working.
There is also an issue with MeeGo 1.2 if you run Qt windows using EGL
on the secondary screen. Which would require an even newer version of
EMGD.

al-eLlu7L0fUqhWk0Htik3J/***@public.gmane.org asks:

I plan to by Snowball board for coding for MeeGo.
Now I am looking for touch screen monitor for this purpose.
What monitors MeeGo support: touch screen, multi-touch screen, both?
Does somebody here use Snowball board?

Note that http://igloocommunity.org/news/ says

This is an initial release of a hardware pack for the Snowball SDK board
intended for evaluation and early adopters. The contents is limited to a
Linux kernel, firmware and boot images. Later releases will contain

- Accelerated graphics through the ARM MALI-400 chipset
- Support for Accelerated Multi Media
- Support for the CG2900 chip containing connectivity hardware for
Bluetooth, WLAN, GPS and FM radio.
- Support for Android

That's the good news. The bad news is that the BSP contains none of these
features now.

I purchased a Snowball but have volunteered to test it in the fedora-arm
project, which does not require hardfp drivers like MeeGo 1.2. Until
there are new BSPs with hardfp drivers for the Beagle, Panda, Snowball or
Origen boards, there are no attractive options for ARM-based IVI
development. Alex, you can still develop MeeGo-1.1 on the Panda or Beagle
with the existing softfp GPU drivers, and the beagleboard.org and
pandaboard.org website list a number of compatible touchscreens. Given how
beefy the Cortex A-9 is, 1.2 will undoubtedly run without the GPU, but the
UI may well be jerky and unresponsive.

There is the trimslice (tegra2) that has just been released with
hardfp drivers. See wiki.meego.com/ARM/TEGRA2 So far that's probably
your best bet for an IVI ARM platform.

A good platform indeed. But unlikely the best one. Good luck getting
the toolchain for that as well as getting binary blobs opened up so
you can do other types of acceleration beyond hardfp. Trimslice ships
with Ubuntu 10.04 anyway which has a lot of software for IVI as well
so installing MeeGo IVI on that is somewhat unnecessary. Furthermore
there is no official MeeGo IVI ARM release so you'll have to support
the software yourself.

If you want to do MeeGo IVI hardfp I recommend the OMAP 3 processor in
the form of the Beagleboard C4 and xM. There are touch screen monitors
that work quite well with this set up. I recommend the lilliput and
there is an Xorg config that should work. Note that TI has not
released hardfp drivers for a lot of things but they also say that
hardfp does not speed up 3D graphics that considerably so living
without it might work, I'm sure there will be hardfp stuff available
from them soon. (At least I hope so.)

STEricsson is unlikely to support IVI software and MeeGo on the
Snowball, at least according to STEricsson themselves, the Snowball is
more geared to the handset market. That doesn't really matter of
course, you can run whatever you want on your own hardware.

If you have any issues installing or running software do report your
issues here since there should be someone who can help.

Regards,

Jeremiah
