Discussion:
IVI 1.2.1 UI

Hi gang,

Just a quick question (things are quite on the list...) --
I have tried out 1.2.0.9xxx versions of IVI and noted that
the UI has changed. In the 1.2 release it had the circlular
center interface with a hidding taskbar at the bottom. The
new image has a UI that looks more like a netbook UI than
any previous version, which seems to move away from the rotary
style control interface. Was this intended? Just asking,

It's a bit confusing I know, but at this time the IVI team is focusing on the 1.2.0 Update release scheduled for July 7. This will provide a more stable version of the already released 1.2.0 IVI UI>

We are not actively working on either the 1.2.0.90 (1.2.1) or Trunk (1.3) branch at this time. After July 7 we will shift back to working on Trunk in preparation for 1.3. As that work moves on it will pull in some of the active development from 1.2.0.90 (1.2.1) and integrate it with the IVI look and feel.

Joel

Joel,

I guess I didn't understand when you said this before... So there's
a 1.2.0, a 1.2.1 and a 1.3? And if so, what is the numbering for 1.2.0.xxx?

Here is a page on release numbering.
http://wiki.meego.com/Release_Engineering/Release_Versioning

As this shows, when a minor number is two digit starting with .80 it’s the "intrusive changes" phase for the next release and if it starts with .90 its "stabilization" phase for the next release and .99 is a release candidate. so 1.2.0.90 is Beta for 1.2.1.

Make sense?

Actually,

I follow the numbering scheme and thus where work on each of
the different versions is being stored (ie: snapshots (daily
and weekly)). In fact the wiki page you linked has links to
those repos... However, the one for 1.2.0 (updates?) is missing.
And it's unclear what the numbering is for 1.2.0 is versues 1.2.1.
Since 1.2.0.90 refers to eventual 1.2.1 release, what then is left
for 1.2.0?

The update to 1.2.0 will be called 1.2.0 update. The package builds for this update will show up in http://repo.meego.com/MeeGo/updates/1.2.0/repos/
The updates will be very selective, and in many cases handpicked from the 1.2.0.90 builds.

Prior to that the patch code is pushed to these projects:

http://build.meego.com/project/show?project=MeeGo%3A1.2.0%3Anon-oss%3AUpdate

The patches that get pushed there are based on the bugs in bugs.meego.com that have the "update blocker" flag approved and release 1.2.0 value.

Here is a list of "approved" 1.2.0 IVI update bugs https://bugs.meego.com/buglist.cgi?emailtype2=substring&field0-0-0=flagtypes.name&classification=MeeGo%20Platform&query_based_on=ivibugs_1.2.0Update%2B&emailcc2=1&query_format=advanced&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=NEEDINFO&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=WAITING%20FOR%20UPSTREAM&bug_status=REOPENED&bug_status=RESOLVED&bug_status=RELEASED&bug_status=VERIFIED&email2=ivi-bugs&version=1.2.0&type0-0-0=anywordssubstr&value0-0-0=meego_update_release_blocker%2B&known_name=ivibugs_1.2.0Update%2B

Ok,

Now that I *understand* things a little better, there are a couple
bugs I would suggest fixing for 1.2.0. These bugs are already reported
(some before 1.2 was released) and thus I'm not sure if it's appropriate
for me to change some of the settings for them. Specifically I would
suggest the following for 1.2.0 blockers (yeah, I'm late to the game),

16878 -- which is partially fixed by the fix for 19353 (my opinion)
17589, 17444, 18315, 18070, -- all refer to display switching orientation incorrectly

Nasa,
Here is the URL for those bugs you listed.
https://bugs.meego.com/buglist.cgi?bug_id=16878%2C19353%2C%2017589%2C%2017444%2C%2018315%2C%2018070&bug_id_type=anyexact&query_format=advanced

All reasonable requests. BTW it's OK for anybody to "propose" a blocker bug.

Jimmy has been consumed working on merging the IVI dialer back into the Trunk handset version of the dialer so that we only have one version of the dialer to maintain. This is a task that kept getting pushed out for over a year now. The merge window for 1.3 was the best opportunity yet, so we had Jimmy work on this ASAP so it would not get pushed out again. This has kept him from working on the bugs you listed. With the first update code freeze on June 30 for a July 7 release I don't think these will get fixed (unless there is a chance you have fixes for any of these?).

BTW in his spare time Jimmy has been working on the lock screen/screen saver issue to remove this from IVI. I think he will have this fixed in the update.

Joel
